Awards offer an opportunity to advocate on behalf of youth ministry by recognizing those youth and adults who provide an exemplary model of living the Gospel life. In that spirit the Diocesan Office of Lifelong Faith Formation is promoting the following NFCYM (National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry) National Recognitions in Youth Ministry as the best way to give to our community living models of the Catholic faith.
Diocesan Adult Award
Companions on the Journey
Criteria – Highest recognition from the NFCYM for a diocese to confer to adults
who demonstrate:
- Excellence in youth ministry as reflected in Renewing the Vision
- Commitment to ongoing education and formation
- Longevity in ministryCommitment to young people

Outstanding leadership at the local and/or diocesan level
Only four to eight recipients per year – Diocesan approved after open nomination process (see forms).
Diocesan Youth Award
St. Timothy Award
Criteria – Highest recognition from the NFCYM for a diocese to confer to a
junior or senior in high school who:
- Lives as a disciple of Christ, setting a positive example for other youth
- Witnesses to their faith by exhibiting Catholic morals and integrity
- Demonstrates Gospel values through service to others

Exhibits Christian leadership in parish, school, Scouting, and/or community settings
Only four to eight recipients per year – Diocesan approved after open nomination process (see forms).
Diocese of Portland Catholic Youth Convention Scholarships
Criteria – Awarded to a senior in high school attending an accredited college/university
- Lives as a young “Catholic Servant Leader”
- Demonstrates a financial need

Up to four $500 scholarships per year – Diocesan approved after open nomination process (see forms).

Adult Award
Light of the World
Criteria – The Light of the World Award is presented to express appreciation and gratitude to adults who have demonstrated a commitment to young people and youth ministry as reflected in Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry.
Youth Award
Discipleship Award
Criteria – The Discipleship Award is presented to youth who respond to the call to discipleship through service or ministry to their parish or school community.
